科學、西學與儒學——紀念《崇禎曆書》開編390周年國際學術會議

缘起

明朝末年,耶穌會士以科學輔助傳教為策略,在傳播天主教的同時把歐洲科學傳入中國,並且在崇禎二年(1629)達到第一波高潮。就在這一年,明朝政府決定通過引入歐洲天文學來完成曆法改革,從而啟動了《崇禎曆書》的編纂。這是歐洲科學登上中國官方科學舞臺的開始,是中西交通史上的一個標誌性的重要事件。由於儒學是當時中國的主流意識形態,以《崇禎曆書》為代表的西方科學的引進與傳播不僅在科學領域產生了很大衝擊,並且引發了西學與儒學之間複雜的衝突與

話。科學、西學與儒學的互涵互動成為當時重要的文化現象。

這一文化現象的考察可以說是我們理解這一特殊歷史時期的關鍵。而

相關歷史時期及文化中科學、儒學與西學關係的探究,也是加深我們理解的題中應有之義。

與此同時,儒學以及相關的中國文化和科學知識也開始通過來華的耶穌會士系統地介紹到歐洲,引發了歐洲知識界的關注,在歐洲近代思想史上留下了明顯的印跡,也成為中西交流史上值得永久探討的議題。

自二十世紀初以來,明清時期中西科學文化的相遇與融合已經成長為一門顯學,近年來更有大量研究著作湧現。其中的一項工作是收錄有清初改編版《崇禎曆書》的《梵蒂岡圖書館藏中西文化交流史文獻(第二輯)》,另一項成果是在國內外近20部殘本基礎上編纂的《〈崇禎曆書〉合校》,系統整理了以《崇禎曆書》為代表的西學漢籍中的天算文獻,是中國學術界

西學漢籍整理的重要成果。

2019年適逢《崇禎曆書》開編390周年,也是和《崇禎曆書》有關的三位重要耶穌會士鄧玉函、湯若望、羅雅谷來華400周年。我們召開本次會議,在紀念《崇禎曆書》編纂這一重要歷史事件的同時,以科學、西學與儒學互動以及知識全球化的廣闊視域,探討明清時期中西科學與文化的相互交流。會議邀請相關領域的國內外專家參會,通過成果发布、學術報告和討論分享他們的发现與思想。我們的目的是希望在“一帶一路計劃”的語境下,提升國際學術界以及公眾對於《崇禎曆書》以及科學、西學與儒學互動的認識。
